3 In 1 device- A prosthetic that is a combination of a packer, STP, and pack and play.
AFAB- Assigned female at birth.
AMAB- Assigned male at birth.
Assigned sex at birth- The sex someone is determined to be at birth.
Binder- A garment used to compress the breasts and create the illusion of a flat chest.
Bottom Growth- The growth of the clitoris on HRT. Bottom growth looks like a micro penis after some time.
Bottom Surgery- A catch-all term referring to several surgeries used to align the genitals with one’s true gender.
Chaser- Someone who sees trans people as a fetish and inherently sexual. They believe trans people are there to fulfill a fantasy instead of treating them with humanity and agency.
Cisgender- Someone who’s identity aligns with their sex assigned at birth i.e. not transgender.
Closeted (In The Closet)- Trans people who have not transitioned and haven’t disclosed to others that they are transgender.
Coming Out- Telling others that you are transgender.
Double Incision Top Surgery- A type of top surgery where one is left with a scar/scars that sit parallel to the bottom of the pectoral muscles.
Egg Cracking- The act of realizing that one is trans.
Egg- Someone who has yet to come to the realization that they are trans.
Facial Masculinization Surgery- The sculpting of facial bones and muscles to create a more masculine face shape.
Free Nipple Grafts- Skin grafts of the nipples where the pedicle is cut completely. Nipples are then resized and placement is adjusted.
FTM- Shorthand for female to male.
Gender Affirming Care- An umbrella term that encompasses medical care that focuses on care relating to gender identity and expression.
Gender Confirmation Surgeries- Encompasses a wide range of surgeries used to help medically alleviate dysphoria felt by a transgender individual.
Gender Dysphoria- A state of distress or unhappiness caused by a misalignment of sex assigned at birth and gender identity.
Gender Euphoria- A state of happiness or joy caused by feeling correctness in one’s gender or having one’s gender respected/validated. This is considered to be the opposite of gender dysphoria.
Gender Expression- A person’s outward expression of gender. This can be name, pronouns, clothing, haircuts, or makeup however it is not limited to these things.
Gender Identity- A person’s innate sense of their gender.
Gender Nonconforming- Someone whose gender expression falls out of the conventional stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. This can be used for both cisgender and transgender individuals
Gender/Sex Binary- The incorrect assumption that gender/sex consists of only two categories; Male and female.
Gender/Sex Essentialism- A theory that there are only two genders/sexes and that each sex has an innate and immutable set of characteristics that are the same for all people of that sex.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)- The utilization of testosterone or estrogen to alter the bodies endocrine system.
Hysterectomy- The surgical removal of the uterus. Usually done to stop menstruation and the ability to get pregnant.
Keyhole Top Surgery- A type of top surgery where one has a small incision made under the areola from where breast tissue is removed. This surgery leaves minimal scarring.
Legal Transition- Changing your name and sex designation on official forms like birth certificates or drivers license.
Medical Transition- The process of going on hormones and/or getting one or more surgical procedures.
Metoidioplasty- A type of bottom surgery that utilizes one’s bottom growth and other existing genitalia to create the phallus and testicles.
Nipple Grafts- Skin grafts of the nipples taken during top surgery to resize and adjust placement. May or may not involve the cutting of the nipple pedicle.
Nonbinary/NB/Enby- Someone whose gender identity falls out of the binary categorization of man and woman.
Pack and Play (PnP)- A prosthetic that has a packing function as well as a function to be able to penetrate a partner. This is typically done thanks to a rigid rod that gets placed in the hollow middle of the prosthetic.
Packer- A soft, silicone penis-shaped prosthetic used to mimic a bulge in pants.
Passing- Being seen (perceived) as the gender one wishes to be perceived as. A trans person who is perceived as being cisgender.
Periareolar Top Surgery- A type of top surgery where an incision is made around the areola in which breast tissue and some skin is removed.
Phalloplasty- A type of bottom surgery that utilizes grafting in addition to current genitalia to create the phallus and testicles.
Social Transition- The process of telling family, friends, and co workers, using a different name or pronouns, growing out hair or getting it cut, and dressing differently.
Stealth- When a trans person doesn’t disclose their transgender identity after transitioning. Typically used as a safety measure in dangerous environments or for personal comfort.
STP (Stand To Pee)- A prosthetic similar to a packer, but hollow to allow the user to pee standing up.
T4T- Trans people who only date other trans people.
Top Surgery- A catch-all term referring to several surgeries used to align the chest area with one’s true gender. Usually consists of the removal of breast tissue and masculinizing the chest.
Trans man- A man assigned female at birth.
Transgender (Trans)- A person who’s identity aligns with a gender different from one assigned at birth.
Transition/Transitioning- The steps one takes to align themselves medically, socially, or legally with their gender identity.
Transmasculine/Transmasc- Someone assigned female at birth who gender is aligned with and/or leaning towards masculinity even if they don’t identify as a man. This is also used as an umbrella term to encapsulate both trans men and some nonbinary individuals.
Transphobia- Negative attitudes and reactions towards transgender individuals.
Transsexual- An older term used by medical/psychological communities as well as older trans people. This word is still used by some trans people today.
Vaginectomy- The surgical removal of the vaginal canal.
